Scientists warn of new superbugs to come as drug-resistant fungus spreads

It began in 2009, when doctors in Tokyo swabbed the ear of a 70-year-old woman and found an unknown strain of fungus that can infect humans and, in severe cases, cause a blood infection in high-risk patients. It's called Candida auris.

In children and teens, depression doesn't always look like sadness

When we think of a depressed person, we tend to think of someone who, well, acts sad. The picture we have in our head is of someone who doesn't want to get off the couch or out of bed, who is eating much less or much more than usual, has trouble sleeping or wants to sleep all the time, who has trouble with usual daily activities, and doesn't talk much.

Proton therapy shows excellent outcomes, minimal side effects in high-risk neuroblastoma patients

Researchers from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania analyzed the largest cohort to date of pediatric patients with high-risk neuroblastoma treated with proton radiation therapy (PRT), finding both that proton therapy was effective at reducing tumors and demonstrated minimal toxicity to surrounding organs.
