World Cancer Day: Why self-examination is important
February 4 is marked as World Cancer Day to spread awareness to reduce illness and death caused by the disease. This day is led by the Union for International Cancer Control to support the goals of the World Cancer Declaration that was written in 2008.
With an increase in the number of cancer cases, doctors have been asking everyone to visit a specialist whenever anyone notices anything unusual on their bodies. One knows his/her body the best and self-examination can save many lives, and in some cases increase the lifespan for many years.
The symptoms that may make you visit a doctor:
While some common cancer symptoms are easy to notice, others may happen inside your body which can be very difficult to spot or describe. But all you need to be aware of are the unnatural changes that your body is going through.
It may be a lasting cough, a change in your feces, heartburn or acidity that keeps coming back, or any other change that just doesn’t feel right. It may also be stark loss of weight, appetite or regular vomiting, or abnormal swelling in any part of your body. Look out of unusual spots or lumps on your skin.
Do not wait and assume it to be a part of any other health condition. Whenever in doubt, just visit a doctor.
Self-checking
It is always smart to be aware of how your breasts normally look or feel like.
The same is the case with testicles. It is a good idea to know how they look, feel or weigh, which makes it easier to spot any unusual changes that you may need to report to your doctor.
