Rising COVID cases is taking a toll on mental health: 5 things to do to avoid this

As coronavirus is infecting human beings, one big population at a time, mental health is suffering a lot. Home isolation, physical distancing, staying away from near and dear ones during the infection are some of the challenges we all are facing since 2020.

The psychological well being of an individual has deteriorated a lot in these two years. Lockdowns, restricted movement and pushing oneself to stay alone and isolated are not what human beings are for.

The Indian government on February 1, in its annual budget has given mental health a top priority. In 2022-2023 the government has allocated Rs 86,200.65 crore to the health sector.

1. Spot the anxiety

As an individual one should always self-assess the behaviour and daily activities. Instead of giving in to loneliness and boredom one should always try to gather courage and motivation from whichever source it is available.

2. Relax a little bit more than you should

Practice various relaxing methods like meditation, or listening to slow music. You can also pick up gardening or read books if that keeps you calm and focused.

3. Pamper yourself

Take out some time and give yourself the best. Include a "me" time in your daily schedule where you will only think about yourself and do activities that please you. During this time you can either play games or practice dance or take an online class.

4. Accept the situation

The more you fight against it, the more it will make it difficult for you to survive through it. As an individual you need to accept it and understand the value of yourself and the service you are giving to the community by remaining indoors.

5 At least one hour a day should be for a digital detox

This will give you the time to look within yourself and maybe ignite a new hobby or a passion to take up something else.
