World Health Organisation issues a public advisory on coronavirus

As the situation is already very tensed, World Health Organisation (WHO) has released information and advice for the public regarding the coronavirus outbreak, which has also been declared as a global health emergency.

In the time of emergency, when all the people are in a panic mode, WHO releases important information and advices so that people are not misled.
Antibiotics cannot prevent or treat coronavirus

Antibiotics do not work against the viruses, but only bacteria. Noting that corona is a virus, antibiotics are not effective in preventing or treating it, says the WHO. However, if a patient is hospitalised for coronavirus, the person may receive antibiotics too because bacterial co-infection is possible, the organisation added.

There is yet no medicine or vaccine

There is no specific medicine for preventing or treating the virus, up till now. Some particular cures are being studied and will be tested in the clinical trials, said the WHO. They added that they are working with partners to help accelerate research and development work.

Anyone can get infected with the novel coronavirus

People of all ages can get infected with the novel coronavirus. While the people who have any pre-existing medical condition such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease are more susceptible to getting infected, says the WHO.

The organisation said that there is yet no evidence that the companion animals like dogs and cats can be infected with the virus. The organisation has advised people to wash hands with water and soap after coming in contact with pets.
